ZF 8 speed in my L405 started jerking between 3rd and 4th when it’s hot, anyone know a decent place that won’t charge me Dubai premium?
Had my 2016 Range Rover Supercharged for about fourteen months now and it’s been a dream up until about two weeks ago when I started noticing this really annoying hesitation and then a slight clunk when the gearbox shifts from third to fourth but weirdly only after I’ve been driving for like forty five minutes and everything is fully up to temperature, cold shifts are silky smooth which makes me think it’s something to do with the valve body seals or maybe the fluid is just old and losing viscosity even though the previous owner swore the transmission service was done at 80k and I’m sitting at 115k now. The dealer in Dubai quoted me a number that genuinely made me choke on my coffee and then suggested I might need a whole new mechatronic unit which just feels like they’re throwing parts at it without actually diagnosing anything properly, and the independent garages I’ve called around Al Quoz are all either booked solid for weeks or they hear “Range Rover” and their eyes turn into dirham signs. My neighbor who runs a small fleet of luxury cars for his rental business told me I should check out some of the Range Rover Transmission Specialists Sharjah because apparently the industrial area up there has some absolute wizards with ZF boxes who do this work day in and day out for a fraction of what you’d pay on Sheikh Zayed Road, and he said a lot of them stock the upgraded solenoids and the proper ZF Lifeguard fluid without marking it up five hundred percent like the fancy places do. I’m just a bit hesitant driving all the way up there from Jumeirah and leaving my baby in some workshop I’ve never seen before, so I’m hoping someone here has actually made the trip and can vouch for a specific shop that knows these 8HP70 transmissions inside and out without trying to sell me a whole new gearbox that I definitely don’t need. The jerk isn’t terrible yet but I can feel it getting slightly worse every few days and I’d rather sort it now than be stranded on the E311 in July waiting for a flatbed.
